A survey was sent to FFIA financial boat owners as at 31st December 2014, 107 were sent out by email and 53 responses were received. The FFIA committee is in the process of digesting & analysing the results. You are welcome to review the results via the following link.

FFIA Survey Feb 2015

Due to an administrative oversight Mordialloc S C was omitted from the list of potential host clubs, a supplementary email was sent out and several responded that they would be happy to sail at MSC.

Question 9 was not analysed by Survey Monkey, below are your responses.

2/22/2015 11:14 AM More time … Too busy
2/20/2015 4:17 PM Sorry, at this stage I just would prefer not to travel.
2/20/2015 12:55 AM More National events where the strength of the fleet is. Consider events in South Australia for WA boats or a two to one rotation with WA. The fleet in WA is so strong we can have up to fourty plus boats at a State Championship. The Nationals in Esperance with WA boats alone will possibly attract over 50 boats. WA also has strong ties with UK sailors. For example in WA this past Christmas we had several British sailors on holiday. WA is strong in its numbers and will not be in the situation that Sandgate was with boat numbers.
2/19/2015 9:12 PM Age is catching up and do not like back 2 back races. There is no consideration for the older crews. I think our average age would be very close to 60
2/19/2015 6:19 PM A better boat and better crew!
2/19/2015 4:53 PM a bit of youth if thats possible
2/19/2015 12:32 PM I have not participated in recent years as I did not feel competitive as helm + crew team. Initiatives by class associations to build overall fleet competiveness may result in greater participation and also support class promotion.
2/19/2015 11:47 AM Mainly only attend if they are in home state ( WA due to travelling time/cost). Shorter duration of championships as you could fit in 4 or more short races a day. Could possibly do nationals in a long weekend/easter.
2/19/2015 11:43 AM  Time on the water with regular racing practice
2/19/2015 11:30 AM  I would prefer more ‘social’ sailing and less hotshot competition. Home exchange could become boat exchange?
2/19/2015 10:53 AM My attendance these days is affected by changing priorities, age and some physical deterioration. I may attend any of the locations if the stars were to align at the time.
2/19/2015 12:03 AM Unlimited funds and annual leave.
2/18/2015 11:15 PM Availability of boats to charter of a reasonable modern standard. As well, I’d like a measurer to check fully the compliance of all boats over numbers 3950, ‘co I doubt that they fully comply with the ff rules. As well, I believe that boat that fail to maintain their registration, MUST be re-measured before being permitted to race in any state or National ff event. such a requirement would solve the problem of declining membership. We have boats that only take on membership when there is a National even here in Canberra. Now a large percentage of boats are not registered for 2014-15 season. Put a minimum charge for re-measurement at $350 and that will stir them up!!
2/18/2015 8:04 PM A lot, Regretfully being an increasingly senior FF15er my enthusiasm, abilities, & competitiveness is waning. Travelling to far distant venues to participate requires considerable effort and is becoming less attractive. Sad but true!
2/18/2015 1:51 PM a younger body and mind!
2/18/2015 11:46 AM  only missed Sandgate due to time / financial commitments elsewhere.
2/18/2015 11:09 AM  There is just so much going on now days that it is really hard to get the time to do the Nationals unless they are convenent location. So much so that even if it is a Worlds qualifier we will drop the Worlds if it is hard to get to the Nationals.
2/18/2015 10:11 AM I plan to sail hopefully each year. This year unfortunately I was overseas and couldn’t make Sandgate.
2/18/2015 12:15 AM The sailing / racing venue is vital. And facilities must be adequate ie: should have at least 2 good cranes.
2/17/2015 8:41 PM other states supporting WA as we travel everywhere but no one will travel to WA
2/17/2015 11:12 PM Kids need to grow up and become independant. Nationals need to be at a good venue!!!! One that wants to run the event.
2/17/2015 8:23 PM depends on my circumstances
2/17/2015 8:22 PM I would like you to consider holding regattas in a more central location. I have sailed Nationals in the past in other classes at Ceduna, Adelaide would be preferable. Some cameo type regattas in some highly desirable locations. Sydney Harbour for instance?? Worth thinking about.
2/17/2015 7:56 PM Perhaps a pre-qualifier at the Canberra Nationals as the worlds are a bi-yearly event. West Coast vs. East Coast qualifying based on entrance numbers and source of origin entrants
2/17/2015 6:56 PM Kids need to get a bit bigger
2/17/2015 6:56 PM We need to go to new venues
2/17/2015 6:15 PM Main concern is cost.
2/17/2015 6:06 PM Good location, great facilities and a strong local fleet. There’s no point in going to a far away location with dodgy facilities just to try to encourage a local fleet. It just kills the class. Sailing on a tiny patch of inland water like Canberra holds no attraction for people who have to pay thousands to get there.
2/17/2015 5:55 PM (Being from WA,) costs are a major factor, especially for the east coast events.( This is obviously a factor for those travelling to the west, given the number of ES boats at the last WA nationals.) Guarantee of a good venue.
2/17/2015 5:40 PM I have not been a FF owner for very long. At this stage I would like to travel, but it is dependant on family and financial commitments.
2/17/2015 5:18 PM Interstate Travel is getting beyond budgets especially transporting the yachts to and from. Eastern States boats do not support WA held Nationals in any numbers. At the Last Nationals at SoPYC we had in excess of 50 boats and only a couple from the east. There is no incentive for Silver Baots anymore as well.
2/17/2015 5:11 PM Financial assistance with travel. More favourable reports regarding the quality of organisation associated with the regatta. More favourable reports regarding the sailing conditions/venue etc, and the social program
2/17/2015 5:06 PM Nationals should occupy a shorter time frame eg Sunday – Friday
2/17/2015 4:58 PM New owner so above reflects our likely intentions going forward. Given successful numbers in past years at Perth and Port Phillip Bay, don’t know why there is a need to go anywhere else. QLD too far for most and appears they don’t have strong fleets so not sure why it was there?
2/17/2015 4:52 PM Timing, as close to Christmas so as to use up public holidays and reduce time away from work
