Nick and Janet Jerwood from South of Perth Yacht Club win the 55th National Championship in Esperance with a score of 7 points.

Race 8 was sailed at 11.00 am this morning (Thursday 5 January) in a building northly breeze starting at 16 knots with gusts to 27 knots and temperatures ranging from 36 – 42 degrees.

The UK team of Alan Bax (P & B) and Simon Child’s gave all their skill and energy into the final days racing to hold onto their well deserved and sailed second place. Third place wasn’t without a battle and well sailed by ‘Tuffan Up’ David Yu and Chris Neslon (FFIWA President and Secretary) finally settling for a fourth place overall.

Well done to ‘Spot the Difference’ Greg Tonnison with ring in crew Mark Lovelady finally winning race 8 in the series with ‘Ineffable’ showing calm, consistent form in second place and ‘Tuffan Up’ third. The final race of the series saw third place winner ‘Ffast Lane 4’ pushed down the fleet with a finish of eigth and ‘Forever Young’ in ninth.

Local sailor David Swan in his new boat ‘Phar Lap’ sailed well to finish with a seventh and an overall result of ninth place. Ashley Smith and Adam Kingston from Queensland with a borrowed boat sailed well to place tenth overall. Consistency went to a well deserved sailing team Bill Shand and David Parish from Victoria. Final results
